Creamy vanilla, sweet strawberry and rich milk chocolate buttercream top a delicious light and fluffy layered cupcake with the same flavors for the ultimate classic combo.
This cupcake seriously tastes just like the ice cream and who doesn't love a cupcake that tastes like ice cream, am I right?! I used my favorite box mixes to create this cupcake for a quick and impressive treat! I made these for my grandmother's 90th birthday party and they were a big hit!
Here's what you need:
• 1 box vanilla cake mix
• 1 box strawberry cake mix
• 1 box chocolate cake mix
• Strawberry Extract
• Pink Gel Color
• Piping Bag
• 1M tip
• Press n' Seal
Step 1:
Make the cupcakes: Prepare the baking sheets and preheat the oven to 350°. Make each cake mix according to the directions on the box and simply layer spoonfuls into the cupcake liners.
Step 2:
Bake at 350° for about 15 minutes and let cool completely.
Step 3:
Make the Frosting: Create the vanilla buttercream following the recipe here and half into two separate bowls. Add about 1/4 teaspoon of strawberry extract to one bowl of frosting and the pink gel coloring and mix well. Next, make the chocolate buttercream recipe here.
Step 4:
Frost the cupcakes: To create the multi-colored swirl separate the three buttercream frostings into separate piping bags and cut the tips.
Pipe three lines like in the picture above and pipe on a sheet of press n seal, wrap and twirl the ends together. Cut the tip and place in a piping bag fitted with a 1M tip or large french tip. Easy peezy!
The swirled buttercream makes such a pretty cupcake, top with sprinkles for extra flair! These cupcakes would be a perfect addition to an ice cream themed party. I plan on making them in cones next!
